MELAKA DAP is scheduled to hold a press conference in the afternoon today, following speculation that it is going to withdraw from the Barisan Nasional-led state government.
A source confirmed the press conference at the Melaka state assembly but declined further comment.
It is learnt that Melaka DAP chief and national organising secretary Khoo Poay briefed the party’s central executive committee (CEC) on the decision last night, and the CEC endorsed it.
The resignations are said to follow DAP’s opposition to the state government’s plan for a constitutional amendment allowing up to seven unelected Melaka assembly members (ADUN).
It is understood that DAP will announce the resignation of all its representatives in the state administration as a sign of protest against the amendment.
Among those expected to resign are Allex Seah Shoo Chin (Exco for Entrepreneur Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs), two Deputy Exco members, namely Low Chee Leong and Leng Chau Yen, as well as the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Kerk Chee Yee.
The action is expected to end DAP's participation in the Melaka Unity Government administration led by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH). - July 14, 2026
