A NEWBORN baby’s body wrapped in cloth was discovered at a waste disposal area of a hostel block at a higher education institution (IPT) in Kuala Langat, Selangor, shortly after midnight.
The discovery was reported to police at about 12.20am by a local man who found the abandoned body at the hostel’s rubbish area.
Kuala Langat District Police Chief Superintendent Akmalrizal Mohd Radzi said police had identified the suspect linked to the case.
"The suspect is a female student in her teens who is believed to be the baby’s mother, and she has been arrested," he said in a statement today.
Police did not disclose the gender of the deceased infant, although reports indicated that the baby was believed to be a girl.
Akmalrizal said the case was being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
