THE Negeri Sembilan Palace has stepped in to remind political parties to leave the royal institution out of their election campaigns, amid attempts to link the palace with political interests ahead of polling day.
Reaffirming its neutrality, the palace said the institution of the rulers does not support or have any involvement with any political party, while warning against the use of images or materials involving the royal family for campaign purposes.
In a statement today, the Palace’s Royal Comptroller said the institution of the Malay rulers remains a symbol of unity and plays a role in preserving harmony, stability and the well-being of the people.
“The royal institution has always upheld the principle of neutrality and does not take sides with any political party,” the statement said.
The palace also stressed that any claims, statements, photographs, videos or other materials linking the Negeri Sembilan Palace, His Royal Highness the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan or members of the royal household to any political party were false.
It further reminded candidates contesting in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election not to exploit 3R issues involving race, religion and royalty throughout the campaign period.
Candidates were urged to conduct their campaigns responsibly and ethically, while adhering to the law to ensure the state’s harmony and stability are maintained.
The palace’s statement comes as campaigning for the Negeri Sembilan election enters its final phase, with political parties making their final push before voters head to the polls on August 1. – July 27, 2026
