DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng has accused Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chow Kon Yeow of misleading the people over what had transpired at the recent party delegates briefing.
The briefing was with DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
"Chow must be confused when he said that at the delegates gathering attended by Loke on Wednesday night, neither I nor anyone raised any objection to PH Penang’s decision to work and accept UMNO’s role in the Penang state government.
“Last week, I had questioned why the political leadership in Penang PH failed to act decisively and remained silent on Penang UMNO’s baseless attacks that both DAP and PKR are playing identity politics by only focusing on one race," said Lim in a statement.
"Neither I nor any party delegate raised this Penang PH’s decision during the meeting principally because its sole agenda was whether DAP should leave or stay in the Federal government, and not about UMNO’s role in the Penang state government.
“Amongst the top Central Executive Committee (CEC) leaders present, only Loke spoke and explained the current scenario as well as responded to the delegates’ queries on the pros and cons of staying in the Federal government.
“Neither Chow nor any other national CEC leader addressed the delegates."
As a veteran CEC leader, Chow should not be discussing the internal details of this closed-door party meeting.
"Chow should be clear that only the secretary-general has the sole prerogative to make comments about the closed-door party meeting."
Chow has every right to stick with his decision to continue working with UMNO despite UMNO’s principal role in causing the defeat of Loke in the Chennah state seat during the Negeri Sembilan state general election.
"However, Chow should not presume that all Penang delegates endorsed his decision merely because no one raised it at Wednesday’s meeting when the Penang DAP delegates were focused on whether to stay or leave the Federal government in Putrajaya."
"Chow can call for another internal DAP Penang delegates’ meeting to discuss the PH Penang political leadership’s unconditional endorsement of UMNO’s role in the Penang state government to gauge the Penang DAP delegates’ sentiments.
“The agenda can be on how this approach by the political leadership in Penang PH can send a message to our voters of decisively defending our honour and dignity as the Penang state government and as elected leaders?" said Lim. - August 14, 2026.
