Melaka election: MCA targets seven seats, aims to take two from DAP
MCA leaves Melaka seat talks to leadership, says BN can win alone - August 23, 2026

MCA has left the question of seat allocations for the upcoming Melaka state election to its top leadership as Barisan Nasional weighs possible cooperation with either Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional.

MCA currently holds two seats in the state, with Hee Sem representing Machap Jaya and Datuk Lim Ban Hong representing Klebang.

Hee Sem said MCA had contested eight seats before the 14th General Election, including Duyong, but no longer sought to contest the constituency after UMNO took it over.

Asked about concerns that MCA could lose some of its seats if BN decides to work with either PH or PN, he said the matter should be decided by the party leadership, particularly MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.

He said any negotiations over seat distribution in the event of an electoral pact would be handled by the party’s top leadership.

However, Hee Sem said he remained confident that BN Melaka could win the state election even if the coalition contested independently, and could potentially form the next state government.

“My assessment is that if BN contests alone, I am confident that we can win many seats and lead the Melaka state government in the future.

“We are confident in the Chief Minister’s leadership and the efforts made during the three years he has led Melaka. We have undertaken many programmes and initiatives, and we have also resolved various problems faced by the people,” he said. - August 23, 2026
