The Prime Minister orders the government to intensify efforts to locate 54 Malaysians still uncontactable after devastating flash floods struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district - August 27, 2026

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the government to mobilise all necessary efforts to locate 54 Malaysians who remain uncontactable following devastating flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district.

Anwar said he was deeply saddened by the extensive destruction caused by the disaster and concerned over the Malaysians whose whereabouts remain unknown.

“I was also deeply affected when informed by the Foreign Affairs Ministry that 54 Malaysians remain uncontactable so far, and efforts to locate them and obtain updates on their condition are being actively carried out,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is working closely with Nepalese authorities and relevant agencies to trace the Malaysians and obtain information on their condition, he said, adding, officials from the Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, are also being mobilised to strengthen coordination on the ground.

“The Madani government, through the Foreign Ministry, will continue to closely monitor developments and mobilise all necessary efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of affected Malaysians remain a priority,” Anwar said.

The Prime Minister urged Malaysians to pray for those still uncontactable and for search and rescue operations to proceed smoothly.

“I urge all Malaysians to join in praying that all of them will be found soon in a safe condition and that all search and rescue efforts will be made easier. Insya-Allah,” he said.

The latest development comes as catastrophic flooding and landslides in Rasuwa have caused extensive damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure, hampering access to affected areas and complicating efforts to establish contact with those caught in the disaster.

The government will continue to monitor the situation closely as rescue teams and Malaysian diplomatic officials work to establish the whereabouts of the missing Malaysians. - August 27, 2026
