A VVIP could become the first person to face charges arising from investigations into the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said today.

He said the possible prosecution would follow the completion of MACC's latest investigation into the leasing of property linked to Tabung Haji's Al Rawda investment in Saudi Arabia.

"Yes, I do not rule out the possibility that a VVIP will be charged in the case… however, we will announce it later," he told a press conference at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today.

Abd Halim said the Al Rawda investigation was the latest RCI-related probe completed by MACC.

Two other investigation papers will also be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) in the near future, involving TH Marine, TH Alam and TH Alam Management, with investments totalling RM334.2 million.

"The second case that has been completed concerns allegations of corruption involving Tabung Haji's 30 per cent shareholding in Putrajaya Perdana Construction Berhad," he said.

The disclosure comes after a former minister was remanded for five days by the Putrajaya Magistrates' Court to assist investigations into Tabung Haji investments in Makkah and Madinah.

MACC has so far detained 11 individuals in investigations following the disclosure of the Tabung Haji RCI report.

Abd Halim confirmed the arrests during today's press conference.

Those detained comprise a 61-year-old former Tabung Haji managing director; a 59-year-old director of Putrajaya Perdana; a 61-year-old former director of Putra Perdana Construction Sdn Bhd; a 60-year-old former Tabung Haji chairman; a 69-year-old former director of Putrajaya Perdana Berhad; a 67-year-old chief operating officer of Alam Maritim Sdn Bhd; a 65-year-old former Tabung Haji senior general manager for Hajj; two former senior general managers in Tabung Haji's Corporate Finance and Services Division, aged 58 and 59; a 60-year-old former Tabung Haji legal adviser; and a 65-year-old former minister.

The investigations follow the release of the Tabung Haji RCI report, which examined the institution's investments and governance. - September 2, 2026
