THE Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today fixed 15 days from July 26 next year for the trial of former Armed Forces chief Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, who is facing four charges involving corruption and criminal breach of trust (CBT).
Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad set the trial dates during today’s case mention for Mohd Nizam, 60.
The trial will be heard on July 26 to 29, Aug 9 to 12, Sept 13 to 15 and Sept 27 to 30, 2027.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nidzuwan Abd Latip said the prosecution had completed the handover of all documents related to the case to the defence after submitting the fifth and final volume today.
“Today, all the documents have been completely handed over to the defence. There are five volumes of documents in total.
“The defence intends to submit a representation, and the parties have discussed and agreed that the next mention be fixed for Oct 28, 2026,” he said.
Nidzuwan said the prosecution also agreed to the proposed trial dates.
Mohd Nizam’s lawyer, Abdul Aziz Hamzah, meanwhile, said the defence would submit a representation to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) within a week, although he did not elaborate on its purpose.
He said the representation would be made after the defence received the complete set of documents from the prosecution.
The defence also asked the court to set a date to hear the outcome of the representation.
“We confirm that we received Volume Five of the prosecution’s documents today.
“Our client intends to submit a representation for the AGC’s consideration, and we will also file the defence statement in accordance with Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
“The trial dates that were mentioned have also been agreed to by the defence,” he said.
The court subsequently fixed Oct 28 this year for a further mention to receive an update on the representation.
Mohd Nizam, who was dressed in a white shirt and black suit, was present during today’s proceedings.
On Jan 23, he claimed trial to two charges of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM552,481.90, as well as one charge each of criminal breach of trust involving RM3 million from the Armed Forces Welfare Fund (TKAT) and receiving RM200,000.
On the first two charges, he was accused of using his position as Assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel Services (AKSPA) of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), while chairing the TKAT Executive Committee, to obtain bribes of RM267,481.90 and RM285,000 for himself.
He was alleged to have appointed five companies to supply sarongs, batik cloth, multifunctional folding pliers, backpacks and bath towels for TKAT’s 2025 Hari Raya gift packages.
On the third charge, he was accused of committing criminal breach of trust while holding the same position by making an additional RM3 million investment in a company without obtaining approval from the TKAT Investment Committee.
On the fourth charge, Mohd Nizam, in his capacity as Armed Forces chief, was accused of receiving RM200,000 for himself without consideration from a 57-year-old company director, knowing that the money might be connected to business dealings to be undertaken by the accused. - September 10, 2026
