Mujahid Yusof accuses UMNO and PAS of using Malay political unity as a vehicle to secure power - September 14, 2026

THE renewed push by UMNO and PAS for Malay political unity is politically motivated and aimed at securing power amid mounting pressure on UMNO, Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said.

Mujahid said the initiative should not be regarded as a genuine effort to unite Malays if its ultimate objective was political manoeuvring and the pursuit of power.

“UMNO is now in an increasingly desperate position following several cases exposed through the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) established at their own initiative,” he told Utusan Malaysia on Monday.

He said any genuine effort by UMNO and PAS to promote Malay unity must take into account the interests of the wider society and must not undermine the rights of other communities.

Mujahid said a broader concept of unity should be founded on national cohesion and the interests of the people, rather than deployed as a political instrument whenever a party comes under pressure.

He said repeatedly raising Malay issues when facing political difficulties risked reducing the unity agenda to political rhetoric. - September 14, 2026
