A DISPUTE in Beaufort, Sabah over just RM60 escalated into a parang attack that left a man injured in the head and thumb in Kampung Kelansatan, Kuala Penyu, on Monday.
Police arrested a 64-year-old local man in the area following the incident and seized a 70cm parang believed to have been used in the attack.
Beaufort district police chief Superintendent Champin Piuh said preliminary investigations found that the incident stemmed from a dispute between the victim and suspect over a RM60 payment.
“Acting on information received, a team from the Kuala Penyu Police Station arrested the suspect at the scene and seized a parang believed to be linked to the case.
“The victim has received treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” he said in a statement today.
Champin said the suspect was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon or dangerous object.
He advised the public to resolve disputes amicably and avoid actions that could lead to fights and injuries.
“The public are also advised to avoid excessive consumption of intoxicating drinks as this can impair judgement and increase the risk of undesirable incidents,” he said. - September 27, 2026
