NEARLY three hours of talks on the Negeri Sembilan political impasse ended without a concrete solution last night, leaving how the state government will function without its 10 executive councillors unresolved.
The meeting at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), involving Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) representatives, ended at about 11pm with most leaders declining to comment, while Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim also left without making any statement.
A Negeri Sembilan UMNO leader offered a brief indication of the discussions, stressing that the state administration must continue and public interests must not be affected by the political impasse.
However, he did not elaborate on the formula or explain how the state government machinery would operate without the 10 Exco members.
No formal decision from the meeting had been announced to the public as of late Sunday night.
The meeting involved BN Exco members and backbenchers as well as PN representatives, including PAS and Wawasan.
The talks followed the decision by Yang di-Pertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir to revoke the appointments of 10 Exco members with effect from Sept 20 after they were found to have breached their oath of loyalty to the ruler.
Before the meeting, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he would meet the 25 BN assemblymen to coordinate the coalition’s next steps and discuss several options for resolving the impasse.
He said any solution must take into account the provisions of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution.
Zahid also gave Ismail the mandate to seek a solution, including audiences with Tuanku Muhriz, the Undang Yang Empat, Tunku Besar Tampin and other figures within the state’s traditional hierarchy.
Ismail arrived at the WTCKL at about 7pm before attending the meeting after performing Maghrib prayers.
His silence after the meeting, coupled with the absence of any formal announcement, leaves key questions over the state administration unresolved, including the status of the Exco and how government machinery will operate following the revocation of their appointments.
Any solution will have to be pursued within the framework of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, with Ismail expected to continue consultations with the state’s traditional institutions and other parties involved. - September 28, 2026
