MALAYSIA Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain says he will leave it to the government to decide what action, if any, should be taken against him over a video of an incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) that has gone viral.
Shuhaily said he had already brought the matter to the attention of the government and the relevant ministry.
“Whatever decision they make, I will accept,” he told reporters at a special press conference today.
He said he had also lodged a police report over concerns that the incident could be used to damage the image of AKPS and his reputation.
Shuhaily acknowledged that he was not without shortcomings, saying he had made the point himself on several occasions.
“I’ve said many times that I am not perfect. Today, I am standing in front of you, owning and facing my incompleteness,” he said.
He added that bringing about change came at a price and that he was prepared to bear it if he was the one who had to pay that price.
“Whatever it is, I will leave it to the authorities to investigate further and let justice prevail for everyone,” he said.
A video showing a man resembling Shuhaily confronting two individuals at KLIA went viral on social media recently.
A separate document containing allegations by one of the individuals, who claimed he had been mistreated by Shuhaily, also circulated online.
AKPS has confirmed that the video was genuine CCTV footage from KLIA Terminal 1.
The agency said the incident happened on Sept 28 while Shuhaily was inspecting AKPS operations at the airport ahead of the arrival of delegates and crew for the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix.
AKPS said the inspection included an enforcement operation involving foreign nationals suspected of being involved in “ulat” activities at KLIA.
A foreign national was taken to the baggage area for further inspection and questioning. AKPS said the process involved its operations team and KLIA Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel.
The agency said the two men seen in the video were not part of the operation and had entered the baggage area without the knowledge of officers before recording the interview on their mobile phones without permission.
AKPS said this led to the confrontation and described their actions as provocative.
The two men subsequently lodged separate police reports on Sept 29 and 30, according to the agency.
Shuhaily has also lodged a police report, with AKPS saying the authorities should investigate how the recording was obtained and circulated.
The agency said it would cooperate fully with the investigation and urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information while the matter is being investigated. – October 1, 2026
