THE FAMILY of the 16-year-old student who was fatally stabbed at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year has filed a civil suit at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The suit was filed through their lawyers, Surendra Ananth Advocates & Solicitors, at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Oct 1.

“We have named several government agencies and the parents of the boy who killed my daughter as defendants. We have also named the boy himself as a defendant,” the victim's mother, Wong Lee Ping, said in a statement today.

She also stressed that the legal action is “not about vengeance”, but ensuring that the relevant parties are held accountable.

"We don't want any other child to have to go through the same.

“With the increasing mental health challenges faced by our children today, we cannot choose to stay silent anymore," she said.

They said lawyers Malik Imtiaz and A Surendra Ananth would represent them in the civil suit.

The High Court in Shah Alam had earlier acquitted a 15-year-old boy of murder on the grounds of insanity.

Judge Adlin Abdul Majid ruled that the defence had successfully established temporary insanity under Section 84 of the Penal Code.

The Attorney General’s Chambers filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal on September 22, challenging the acquittal. – October 3, 2026
