COMMUTERS on the MRT Putrajaya Line are facing significant delays today following a power supply failure caused by cable theft near the Taman Equine Station, operator Rapid KL confirmed.

In an official statement, Rapid KL disclosed that the disruption was detected at 5.24 am when a train lost power and stalled at Taman Equine Station, prompting the immediate dispatch of technical personnel to inspect the area and execute restoration works.

The operational setback has resulted in longer platform waiting times, particularly at UPM, 16 Sierra, and Putrajaya Sentral stations.

To mitigate passenger congestion and ensure continued mobility, alternative train loops and feeder bus services have been activated. Trains from Kwasa Damansara are currently turning back at UPM Station with a 10-minute frequency, while a shuttle train operates between UPM and 16 Sierra at matching 10-minute intervals.

A separate shuttle train service is running between 16 Sierra and Putrajaya Sentral with a frequency of seven minutes.

Rapid KL has also deployed free bidirectional shuttle buses connecting Serdang Jaya, UPM, Taman Equine, Putra Permai, 16 Sierra, Cyberjaya Utara, Cyberjaya City Centre, and Putrajaya Sentral stations, operating at 15- to 20-minute intervals subject to traffic conditions.

Passengers relying on the MRT Putrajaya Line to travel towards Sepang via the Express Rail Link (ERL) connection at Putrajaya Sentral have been advised to allow for extra travel time or reroute via ERL services at KL Sentral and Bandar Tasik Selatan.

Auxiliary police personnel and station staff have been stationed at platforms and concourses to manage passenger flow, supported by regular public address announcements.

Rapid KL stated that it views acts of cable theft with extreme gravity given the direct impact on operational safety and public transit reliability, adding that real-time updates will continue to be disseminated through its social media channels and travel applications. - October 4, 2026
