ANY safety issues at schools must be reported immediately, without attempts to conceal them merely to protect the institution's reputation.
To ensure this, close ties between schools and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) must be strengthened.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated that the PDRM, through School Liaison Officers (PPS), maintains good relations with schools, including conducting regular visits.
He noted that school safety is a shared responsibility requiring close cooperation between the PDRM, the Ministry of Education (MOE), and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
"Many unexpected incidents require attention not only from the police but also from schools and parents, through the synergy of the PDRM, MOE, and PTA," he said.
When asked about the need for the PDRM and MOE to revisit additional safety measures—such as the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras—he stated that the matter is frequently discussed.
"The PDRM, through the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), constantly directs officers to conduct patrols," he explained.
Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid stated that a comprehensive investigation is still underway regarding the death of a 16-year-old student at a school in Yong Peng, Johor.
“The 16-year-old suspect has been arrested and remanded for six days for further investigation. Based on current information, we are confident that this case can be successfully resolved,” he said.
On a separate issue, he said police have recorded statements from 25 people in connection with an incident involving Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.
He said police also obtained closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and a medical report as part of the investigation. – October 5, 2026
