THE public will soon have access to an AI-powered tool to verify suspicious phone numbers, bank accounts, and links before conducting transactions, through a new application to be developed by the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the initiative aims to help the public detect signs of fraud early, thereby reducing the risk of falling victim to online scam syndicates.
“The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has blocked over 5.7 billion fraudulent calls and Short Message Service (SMS) messages.
“This figure illustrates the scale of the threat posed by communication-based fraud, necessitating continuous action alongside efforts to raise consumer awareness before they part with money or personal information to unknown parties.
“Through the planned AI application, users will be able to verify suspicious phone numbers, bank accounts, or links before proceeding with transactions,” he said while tabling the 2027 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today.
In addition to developing the application, Anwar stated that the government is also focusing on strengthening digital security and curbing cybercrime by enhancing detection and prevention capabilities.
“That approach is crucial for complementing enforcement actions with preventive measures that enable the public to verify information before falling victim to scam tactics,” he added. – October 9, 2026
