THE Government has allocated RM7.1 billion under Budget 2027 to strengthen security assets and operational readiness, with police and maritime enforcement agencies welcoming funding for new facilities, equipment maintenance and technology to tackle increasingly complex crimes and threats to national security.

The allocation forms part of the RM22 billion set aside for the Home Ministry, covering the procurement and maintenance of assets for the armed forces, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other uniformed agencies under the ministry.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the budget would strengthen national security while improving the welfare of police personnel.

PDRM welcomed plans to build the General Operations Force’s 19th Battalion complex in Cheras and three new police stations in Sungai Rambai, Melaka; Tanjung Malim, Perak; and Batu Lintang, Sri Aman, Sarawak.

“These initiatives will strengthen the force’s infrastructure, enhance operational readiness and support the delivery of more efficient policing services,” he said in a recent statement.

The police also welcomed RM1.1 billion to strengthen enforcement agencies’ operational capabilities amid increasingly complex security and crime challenges.

On digital threats, Mohd Khalid said an artificial intelligence application being developed by the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), alongside enhancements to the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children system, would bolster efforts to combat online fraud and protect children from sexual exploitation.

“These initiatives will strengthen prevention, early detection and enforcement, particularly in curbing online scams and protecting children from the threat of sexual exploitation,” he said.

PDRM also welcomed RM2.3 billion for the construction and maintenance of public servants’ quarters, including police accommodation, to improve the welfare of officers, personnel and their families.

Mohd Khalid said the force would ensure the allocations were used optimally to strengthen its capabilities and improve services to the public.

Separately, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the planned Johor Maritime State Headquarters in Tanjung Kupang would improve enforcement capacity and coordination of maritime security operations, particularly in Johor’s waters and surrounding areas.

He said sustained investment in assets and infrastructure was crucial to maintaining operational readiness and addressing threats such as cross-border crime, while protecting national economic interests and maritime communities.

“For the MMEA, this capability supports patrols, law enforcement and search-and-rescue operations in the interests of public safety and the sovereignty of the nation’s waters,” he said.

Mohd Rosli said the agency was committed to managing its allocations efficiently, transparently and effectively to strengthen its enforcement, protection and rescue operations.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the planned maritime headquarters and a new Immigration Department office in Keningau, Sabah, among the facilities under Budget 2027.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar urged civil servants to implement the budget’s policies and initiatives swiftly and effectively to ensure the benefits reached the public.

He said the public service had a responsibility to support government policies through prompt execution, describing the commitment as a national undertaking.

“I am confident that all public servants are always ready to shoulder these duties and responsibilities as a National Pledge, while continuing to support government policies through swift and effective implementation so that the benefits of economic growth can be shared by all,” he said.

Shamsul Azri said the RM459.8 billion budget reflected the government’s commitment to public welfare while balancing national development with economic sustainability and fiscal resilience.

Of the total, RM376.8 billion was allocated for operating expenditure and RM83 billion for development expenditure, guided by eight key principles.

He cited the RM2,000 minimum wage, RM80 billion in subsidies, assistance and incentives, and special financial assistance of RM1,500 for eligible civil servants and RM750 for pensioners as measures intended to support households and public servants.

He added that tax incentives and exemptions announced in the budget reflected the government’s efforts to safeguard public welfare. - October 10, 2026
