A MAN with 10 previous criminal records was shot and injured after allegedly fleeing a police check and driving dangerously, ramming several vehicles during a pursuit from Petaling Jaya towards Sungai Buloh on Friday.

The suspect, in his 30s, was driving a Proton Wira when he was eventually arrested, while a police patrol officer was also injured in the incident.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said police received a report at 6.42pm.

“The suspect drove aggressively and dangerously and rammed other vehicles before being detained at the scene.

“The suspect was injured after being shot by police during the incident and is still receiving treatment at University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM),” he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin said checks found that the suspect had six previous drug-related cases and four other criminal cases.

Police also seized drugs and a toy weapon resembling a pistol, while a urine screening test had yet to be conducted because the suspect was still receiving treatment.

He said police were investigating why the man had fled when officers attempted to conduct a check.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties and Section 279 for reckless or dangerous driving.

Investigations are also being conducted under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, and Sections 39B and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Shamsudin said an application to remand the suspect was scheduled to be made at PPUM today.

Several videos showing the police pursuit circulated on social media following the incident.

Members of the public with information were urged to contact the nearest police station or the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters operations room at 03-7966 2222 to assist investigations. - October 10, 2026
