THE national budget reflects the government's governance values in balancing the nation's direction—not merely for a single term, but to ensure sustainable development goals for future generations.
“Every year, we hear, evaluate, and critique government decisions regarding taxes, category-based tax relief, subsidy assistance, and which social groups will benefit the most.
“Thus, the budget for the coming year certainly ensures the continued translation of the wasatiyyah (moderation) concept and focuses on building a balanced and equitable nation,” said Aidi Amin Yazid, Chairman of Pertubuhan Jaringan Insan Madani.
He said the government's core effort to elevate living standards with dignity continues to be realised through wage improvements, cost-of-living assistance, and social protection.
Various direct initiatives to alleviate the cost of living—through financial aid such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA)—will see funding increased to RM16 billion.
This aims to benefit nearly nine million recipients, assisting with up to RM150 per month or RM1,800 per year.
Minimum wage increases and targeted tax relief take into account current economic pressures and an inflation rate expected to rise slightly in early 2027 before moderating as the impact of upstream cost increases subsides.
“National governance and administration are never perfect; what matters most is prioritising the people so they can sustain their livelihoods and share in the nation's progress.
“Before we can achieve high-income nation status, it is fitting for everyone to cultivate empathy and a strong sense of national identity.
“Some may feel their rights are being infringed upon to assist those deemed ineligible, yet the reality is that we sometimes take our blessings for granted, said Aidi.
He pointed out that many sometimes forget that while there are days one finds life difficult, others struggle simply to survive due to economic pressures.
He said national fiscal responsibility must begin with our own habits and lifestyles.
“We need to review and reassess our financial commitments, and plan our spending and investments more prudently.
“Living a modest life protects us from spending beyond our means. Financial leverage should only be utilised by those undertaking business risks, rather than to fund an extravagant lifestyle.
“It is hoped that Members of Parliament will debate the national budget with prudence, ensuring that the voices of the people are upheld with dignity,” he added. – October 10, 2026
