Johor hardest hit with Pasir Gudang registering the country’s highest API reading of 180 - October 11, 2026

UNHEALTHY air quality was recorded in 15 areas across Malaysia as of 9am today, with pollution levels highest in Johor, according to the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index of Malaysia (APIMS).

Pasir Gudang recorded the country’s highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 180, followed by Larkin at 178, Kota Tinggi at 166, Tangkak at 164, Segamat at 162, Pengerang at 160, Kluang at 159 and Batu Pahat at 151.

Outside Johor, Balok Baru in Kuantan, Pahang, recorded an API of 159, while Cheras in Kuala Lumpur registered 157.

In Terengganu, Kemaman and Kuala Terengganu each recorded readings of 156, while Paka registered 133. Alor Gajah in Melaka recorded 103.

The APIMS portal reported moderate air quality in 50 areas and good readings in three others.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous. - October 11, 2026
