CYBERJAYA – Telecommunications service providers are implementing disaster recovery plans to avoid prolonged service disruption in flood-affected areas to ensure stable services, said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

MCMC said in a statement today that this was because there were areas that experienced service disruptions due to power outages at communication towers.

Measures taken include placing generators on elevated platforms, using temporary or permanent generators, upgrading backup batteries, and providing temporary base transceiver stations at evacuation centres.

“People are advised to be always aware and alert to the latest developments. Save on the use of communication equipment in the event of a power outage in your area and only use it for important matters such as making emergency calls,” the statement read.

MCMC also urged the public to contact the telecommunication companies if there are any service disruptions in their area to enable restoration work to be carried out. – Bernama, January 7, 2021
