THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) recorded 186,257 arrests in 167,601 drug-related cases nationwide in the first nine months of this year, as intensified enforcement efforts saw the value of drugs and poisons seized surge to RM2.85 billion.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the seizure value from January to September rose RM865.45 million, or 43.63 per cent, from RM1.98 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 23,195, involving 26,368 arrests, followed by Kedah with 18,843 cases and 19,601 arrests, and Kelantan with 18,008 cases and 19,712 arrests.

Hussein said the NCID seized 36,612.72kg of drugs and 30,580.19 litres of liquid drugs during the period.

Seizures of substances regulated under the Poisons Act totalled a further 45,382.70kg and 106,092.56 litres.

“The increase in the value of seizures reflects the significant results of enforcement action against drug trafficking and controlled substances,” he said in a statement.

He said drug trafficking remained increasingly challenging, with organised syndicates exploiting various smuggling methods, technology and communication channels to facilitate their operations.

The NCID would continue strengthening enforcement through proactive, integrated and intelligence-driven strategies, with a focus on disrupting drug supply networks, curbing smuggling and identifying key individuals and groups behind illicit distribution activities, he added.

Hussein also urged the public to cooperate with the authorities to help curb drug-related crime and protect national security and public well-being. - October 21, 2026
