A TEACHER at an international school in Kuching was injured on Wednesday while attempting to seize a sharp object brought onto the school premises without authorisation by a 16-year-old secondary school student.

In a statement today, the school said the incident occurred in the TK4 area on Wednesday morning.

The teacher was taken to hospital for treatment after the school contacted ambulance services.

The student was immediately restrained and taken to the principal’s office, where he remained under supervision pending further action.

Police arrived at the school and took over the case, while the student’s parents were also contacted.

The school said no other injuries had been reported so far.

During a search of the student’s bag, police also found an item requiring further examination, which is now being handled by the authorities.

As a precaution and on police advice, the school ordered a temporary closure to facilitate further investigations and informed parents to collect their children early.

Parents who were unable to collect their children immediately were advised to contact the school to make the necessary arrangements. - October 21, 2026
