A 10-MONTH-old boy who died after being found weak at his babysitter's home in Tasek Gelugor on Monday had head injuries consistent with blunt-force trauma, a post-mortem examination found.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said the examination was conducted at Kepala Batas Hospital yesterday and identified injuries that were potentially fatal.

“Doctors confirmed the presence of head injuries consistent with blunt-force trauma that could have caused death.

“However, they could not determine whether the injuries resulted from an accident or another person's actions, the number of impacts, the object involved or the exact time the injuries occurred,” he said.

The findings establish the nature and potential severity of the injuries but do not, by themselves, determine how they occurred or whether another person was responsible.

The boy, Muhammad Faris Syazwan Muhammad Zulkarnain, was reportedly found in a weak condition while under the care of the babysitter and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a clinic.

The 25-year-old babysitter was remanded for seven days from Oct 20 to assist investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the child's death. - October 22, 2026
