MIRI – Sarawak today recorded 146 new Covid-19 cases following the 153 cases recorded yesterday.

The Sibu district recorded 92 new cases today, followed by Sebauh with 20, Kanowit (12), Miri (11), Beluru (3), Kuching (3), Dalat (2) and one each in Saratok, Bintulu and Limbang.

The state Disaster Management Committee said in a statement that the cases in Sebauh involves a new cluster.

“Of the total new cases in Sibu, 83 are from the Pasai Siong cluster.”

The Pasai Siong cluster resulted from a funeral ceremony at the Rumah Langi longhouse some 60km from Sibu town.

Hundreds attended the ceremony from eight longhouses over a three-day period.

The index case was a woman who had returned from Johor for the funeral.

The committee said all relevant state authorities, departments and agencies have mobilised their available manpower to try to contain the spread of the virus.

With the new cases today, Sarawak has 1,574 cases with 19 deaths in total. – The Vibes, January 12, 2021
