GEORGE TOWN – Gerakan has accused DAP of prioritising politics despite the growing Covid-19 threat in the country.
Its vice-president, Datuk Baljit Singh, said at a time when human and financial resources should be directed at flattening the curve, there are DAP leaders who are bitter and self-serving.
“DAP is intent on spreading hate and confusion among the Penang people. It is pointless for DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to bring up issues that are no longer under his purview.
“He should leave it to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to sort out all outstanding and pressing matters with the government, since Chow is the rightful chief minister of Penang. He does not share his seat or power with anyone else,” he said in a statement today.
Lim and Chow had last week held a joint-press conference at the DAP Headquarters in Penang to start a signature campaign, following Putajaya’s move to allegedly cancel four major projects in the state.
The four infrastructure projects involve the Bukit Bendera cable car system, airport expansions, the federal government’s guarantee to fund the state’s light rail transit project, and the discontinuation of the Penang ferry service.
Baljit said if news reports and press statements are to be believed, the ambitious undersea tunnel plan will be financed by a white knight, and should no longer pose a problem.
“The same goes with the other infrastructure projects, which DAP claims have been cancelled due to ‘political vengeance’.”
He questioned why DAP did not act as decisively about the four projects before, when it was part of the Pakatan Harapan administration for 22 months.
He said the people are no longer interested in learning about political issues as they prioritise survival during these difficult times.
“No one is interested in your vanity projects. We want to stay healthy, keep our jobs, adapt to the new normal and move on with life.” – The Vibes, January 15, 2021
