GEORGE TOWN – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng hopes police will investigate the leaders of PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) as well if they want to investigate him for his public statements, made while he was still in the government.
Lim, who is also Bagan MP, said the police should investigate PAS and PN leaders for their statements during the same period.
“I hope the police would investigate PAS and PN leaders for their statements issued during the same period. I thank all supporters who expressed their deep concerns about the political motivations of investigating public statements made in 2019 when I was still in government,” Lim said.
In a statement issued today, Lim said he was being investigated for his two public statements in 2019, while he was Finance Minister.
Lim was investigated under Section 504 and 505C of the Penal Code, which covers an intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, which carries an imprisonment of two years or fine or both.
He said in the midst of the movement control order(MCO) and Emergency period, he was given a written notification by police to meet them in Penang. Lim met Bukit Aman police officers yesterday, and had his statement recorded.
Lim said many police reports were made against other party leaders for making racist and extremist religious remarks. However, there was no reaction from police after several reports.
“If police can insist on having my statement recorded during the MCO and Emergency period, there is more reason to allow Parliamentary meetings to function as normal.
“There is no reason for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to suspend Parliament and not allow the Parliament to meet.
“Parliament had functioned normally and convened at all times even though the previous four Emergency Proclamations were not repealed. The prime minister is wrong to suspend Parliament,” he added.
Lim said DAP supports the call by opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar for a petition amongst all MPs to revoke the suspension and restore Parliament. – The Vibes, January 15, 2021
