KOTA KINABALU – The road from Penampang near here to Tambunan has collapsed, following heavy and continuous rain here since yesterday.

There is no official statement from the state Public Works Department yet, but a source from the department said that the contractor in charge of the road under the department is taking immediate action on the matter.

Photos of the incident showing severe cracks in the road were widely shared among local social media users since 11am today. Three hours later, the affected part of the road collapsed.

The road had to be closed to traffic in both directions with blockades set up.

The Vibes has been trying to get a response from Works Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on the matter. His press secretary confirmed that Bung is aware of the matter and will issue a statement on it soon.
