MIRI – The Sarawak government will provide food aid to 73,000 families the three districts of Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau in the central part of the state, who are currently living under the movement control order (MCO).

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said food aid will be chanelled starting from Wednesday until January 29.

"The food aid will be given to every households affected by the MCO involving 73,000 households in the three districts and the food stock is being arranged.

"The delivery will be carried out using land and river transport, and even helicopters if needed, to reach far-off locations," he told a press conference here today.

Awang said the state government has called for logistical support from district offices, welfare authorities, village residential committees and community volunteer groups to help with deliveries, assuring that no one would be left behind.

Meanwhile, drive-thru swab tests are being carried out at the Sibu Library compound.

The system is meant for those classified as close contacts of Covid-19 patients.
