KUALA LUMPUR – Pressure continues to mount on embattled Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as critics have published and circulated a document detailing 30 reasons the Umno president should step down.

In a document titled 30 Reasons Zahid Must Quit as Umno President, which is making its rounds on social media, detractors level a series of barbs, including the 87 court charges faced by Zahid, but it is uncertain as to who published it.

Such problems, the writers said, make Zahid a liability for Umno to name him as a prime minister candidate, adding that 60% of Umno members do not support Zahid and that he is the reason scores of Umno MPs quit the party to join Bersatu.

Zahid was also accused of disrespecting the royal institution for allegedly denying signing a letter to withdraw support for Perikatan Nasional (PN) and betrayed the spirit of Barisan Nasional when he unilaterally sacked Tan Sri Annuar Musa as secretary-general.

The document also accused Zahid of working together with opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to topple PN and betraying Malaysians and PN for politicking in the midst of Covid-19, despite an agreement to support the government until the elections.

Zahid’s term as party president is set to end in June, and it is uncertain if he will contest for the same position.

Several party members have already openly called for Zahid to step down, with speculations that Umno is now split into multiple factions. – The Vibes, January 19, 2021
