PUTRAJAYA – Retailers are allowed to impose a limit on the purchase of cooking oil in 1kg polybags to three units per transaction for each customer effective yesterday.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry enforcement director Azman Adam said this is to ensure more customers can buy the cooking oil, which is subsidised by the government.

Cooking oil in 1kg polybag is a controlled item subsidised under the Cooking Oil Stabilisation Scheme (COSS).

“The authorisation is only applicable to the 1kg polybag pack, which should be sold at RM2.50 per kg,” Azman said in a statement today.

Azman said the government is committed to ensuring a stable supply of subsidised cooking oil during the challenging movement control order period.

He said the ministry is continuing to monitor the trading and distribution of the item in the country so that wholesale and retail distribution is not affected.

“The directive is also to ensure traders do not take advantage to manipulate the price and supply of cooking oil during the Covid-19 pandemic.” – Bernama, January 20, 2021
