MIRI – The Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak continues to rise, with three more deaths today confirmed to be from the virus.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the three new fatalities are all from Sibu Hospital.

“Today, we confirm three more deaths caused by Covid-19 at Sibu Hospital. The state government and health authorities are doing all we can to stop the pandemic.

“Sadly, it is spreading all over the state, even reaching remote Long San (in Baram district, 300km inland from Miri).

“We can only win this pandemic war with the help of the people,” he said at a press conference here today.

The new deaths all involve local men, a 59-year-old (died on Sunday), a 76- year-old (died yesterday) and a 91-year-old (died yesterday), respectively.

Uggah said the death toll now stands at 33, with 205 new infections in the state today.

He urged those who continue to defy the standard operating procedures to change their attitude fast.

Sibu recorded 51 new cases, Kanowit has 41; Miri, 32; Dalat and Bintulu, 19, each; Kuching, 10; and other districts between one and five new cases.

Sibu Hospital today has 1,088 positive patients, Miri Hospital has 304; Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, 162; Bintulu Hospital, 97; Kapit Hospital, 40; Sarikei Hospital, 14; and Limbang Hospital has one patient. – The Vibes, January 26, 2021
