MIRI – Sibu today logged another Covid-19 fatality, bringing the state’s death toll to 39.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat said in a press statement that the death of a 77-year-old man in Sibu Hospital yesterday was confirmed today as due to Covid-19.

Today, Sarawak recorded 105 new cases with Sibu district detecting 15 infections, followed by Miri (20), Bintulu (19), Lundu (14), Kapit (11) and other districts with less than 10 new cases.

In Miri Hospital, four more health workers have been infected by Covid-19, said the secretariat.

Last week, 20 staff members were infected. They are currently being treated in the hospital’s isolation ward.

Sibu Hospital has a total of 914 Covid-19 patients and Miri Hospital has 297, followed by Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (170), Bintulu Hospital (141), Kapit Hospital (110), Sarikei Hospital (27), and Limbang Hospital (4).

The secretariat said a new cluster called Bintang Daily has emerged in Maradong in central Sarawak.

So far, seven people from a household and workplace there have tested positive, with contact tracing underway.

Sarawak now has 12 active clusters.

In a related development, the movement control order (MCO) in Kapit and Song districts will start from midnight today until February 16 in view of rising cases in those remote areas.

Sibu is already under extended MCO until February 14.

The other 37 districts in the state are under CMCO until February 14. – The Vibes, February 1, 2021
