MIRI – With its blood supply having dwindled by half, Miri Hospital is in urgent need of donors.
The hospital has sent out notices appealing to the public to not be afraid to come forward and donate amid the pandemic.
Its blood bank committee, in its notice, said the donation centre is located far from the Covid-19 isolation and treatment ward.
“The blood donation centre has its own car park, and donors can go straight to the centre without entering the hospital building.
“The blood donation facilities and equipment are thoroughly sanitised, and all the SOPs are in place to ensure donors’ safety.
“Donors need not register with the hospital to go to the blood donation centre.”
The blood bank is vital, providing supply for transfusion during surgery and in emergency cases like those involving road crash victims.
The Miri Red Crescent has stepped up its campaign to encourage people to donate blood to the hospital.
Its committee chairman, Karambir Singh, said the blood donation team works throughout the year to ensure enough supply for Miri Hospital.
“Blood donation is a life-saving act that must continue due to the hospital’s daily urgent needs.
“The Red Crescent blood donation centre is sanitised regularly, and all SOPs and hygiene standards are strictly adhered to for the safety of donors.”
Miri Hospital’s blood bank carries supply for the district and northern Sarawak. It replenishes supply for government hospitals in Limbang, Lawas and Marudi, as well as government clinics in Bakong, Long Lama, Bekenu, Sibuti, Niah and Suai. – The Vibes, February 3, 2021
