MIRI – Sarawak today logged two more Covid-19 fatalities, bringing the state's death toll to 44.
State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Dougglas Uggah Ebbas said the deaths were recorded at Sibu Hospital earlier today.
The fatalities were of a 60-year-old man and a 79-year-old man, he told a press conference from his Kuching office today.
Uggah said the state also recorded 270 new cases.
Sibu logged 79 infections, followed by Miri (17), Bintulu (23), Beluru (74), Sri Aman (15), Matu (14), Selangau (10) and the rest recording less than 10 cases.
Sibu Hospital today is treating 913 Covid-19 patients, followed by Miri Hospital with 394, Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (166), Bintulu Hospital (161), Kapit Hospital (99), Sarikei Hospital (24) and Limbang Hospital (4).
Sarawak still has 12 active clusters.
In a related development, Uggah said security at longhouses will be tightened as there have been many instances of residents attending gatherings despite being placed under the movement control order.
“Longhouse gatherings have contributed to a lot of new infections and yet, there are still those who sneak out for gatherings.
“We will increase the number of police, soldiers and Rela personnel to guard longhouses in the locked-down zones.”
Uggah said the state will also hold a high-level meeting with the police and army tomorrow to discuss tighter security measures. – The Vibes, February 4, 2021
