MIRI – Happy-hour sessions at bars and pubs in Sarawak do not always end on a high note.

A surge of more than 600 Covid-19 cases here in the past month points to individuals who were infected during sessions of boozing and merry-making at watering holes in and around the city.

This shocking truth was discovered by medical sector teams who interviewed the patients.

“What is sad is that many of these adults who contracted the coronavirus during their happy-hour session with friends later return home and infect their spouse and children,” a source from one of the teams told The Vibes.

“There are cases of children as young as 3 years old getting infected in Miri because their father infected them.

“They (the children) are the victims of the follies of their fathers.”

The source said these findings have been presented to the relevant authorities at the district level and state politicians.

Last month, at least three Covid-19 clusters here had spread to other parts of Sarawak, triggering subsequent outbreaks and infections.

“This is because some of those who get infected at bars and pubs in Miri later travel to other parts of the state before they are tested and diagnosed with Covid-19,” the source said.

“When they meet up with friends for more happy-hour sessions, they spread the virus further.”
