MIRI – Sibu recorded two new deaths today, bringing Sarawak’s Covid-19 death toll to 55.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a press statement said the two deaths involved a woman, 66, and a man, 57.

The secretariat extended its condolences to the family members of the deceased and warned the people that the coronavirus situation is still serious in the state.

Today also saw 111 new positive cases across the state, with Sibu recording 57 cases.

Covid-19 is said to be widespread in Sibu and not confined to longhouses anymore due to the movement of those affected since early January until the movement control order (MCO) was instituted.

Meanwhile, the secretariat said Miri district recorded 21 new cases, followed by Bintulu (12) and Dalat (7), while several other districts recorded less than five cases.

There are still 15 active clusters in the state.
