MIRI – Sarawak today announced six new Covid-19 clusters in the state and a single fatality recorded in Sibu district.

While Sarawakians keenly await the Pfizer vaccine that will arrive in Sarawak on February 27, the number of infections continue to surge.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said there are 193 new positive infections state-wide today, plus six new clusters.

The new clusters are Geronggang Sibu Old Folks’ Home (41 positive cases today), Mas Merah Sibu (10 cases), Univista Samarahan (45 cases), Kg Sg Maong Kuching (18 cases), Gelong Kapit (14 cases), Kidurong (two cases), and Bintulu (12 cases).

“The old folks’ cluster involves the senior citizens living there, while the Mas Merah cluster involves a home and its family members.

“The Kidurong cluster involves a housing estate and a primary school,” said the secretariat in a press statement here today.

The new fatality involved a 83-yr old woman at Sibu Hospital, said the secretariat, which extended its condolences to the family of the deceased.

The total death toll from the coronavirus in Sarawak is now 62.

Sibu district recorded 105 new positive cases today, while Samarahan recorded 19, Kuching 17, Bintulu 12, and several other districts one or two new cases.

There are now 21 active clusters throughout the state today, it said.

Sibu Hospital is treating 955 Covid-19 patients today. Miri Hospital has 359, Kapit Hospital 162, Sarawak General Hospital 148, Bintulu Hospital 137, Sarikei Hospital 78, Limbang and Saratok hospitals have two each, and the Sri Aman and Lawas hospitals have one each.

The secretariat reminded people in Sarawak that the war against Covid-19 in the state was far from over.

It said that the rakyat need to help the authorities by obeying every standard operating procedure in place to stop the chain of infections. – The Vibes, February 16, 2021
