ALOR STAR – Three hospitals in Kedah have been selected as centres for Covid-19 vaccine storage and collection before being distributed for inoculation.
State health committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman said the selected facilities are Sultanah Bahiyah 2 Hospital here, Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sg Petani, and Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi.
He told Berita Harian that the three hospitals were chosen based on their logistical facilities and requirements to ensure the vaccines are properly stored.
“The vaccines need to be kept at -80 degrees Celsius, similar to the temperature used for keeping liquid nitrogen.
“If the temperature differs between two and eight degrees Celsius, the vaccines can only last for two to five days.”
He said the process to determine who receives the vaccine in each phase will be determined by the National Security Council. – The Vibes, February 18, 2021
