SEBERANG JAYA – An unusually heavy-looking car boot raised suspicions at a police roadblock and led to a shocking find: a 14-year-old boy curled up inside.
A woman hid her stepson in the boot in an attempt to cross district lines, but was stopped at the roadblock at the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway here yesterday.
In the 6pm incident, the 35-year-old driver was travelling from Butterworth with another 14-year-old boy – her stepson’s friend – in the car riding normally.
According to Covid-19 standard operating procedures, only two people are allowed to travel per vehicle.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Shafee Abd Samad said the woman told police she was going to buy clothes at a supermarket, but the officers on duty ordered her to pull over.
“Suspicious of the condition of the car, police ordered her to open the boot. To their surprise, they found her 14-year-old stepson inside,” he told The Vibes.
He said the woman was fined RM1,000 for failing to produce a cross-district movement permit, and advice was given to the two teenagers.
“She was also asked to turn back after the compound was issued.”
Photos of the boy inside the boot have been widely shared on social media, eliciting funny comments. – The Vibes, February 18, 2021
