MIRI – Sarawak will have an additional 60 vaccination centres in a bid to hasten residents’ inoculation against Covid-19.
The state Health Department said these are on top of the 55 centres identified earlier this year.
State Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, in his updates today, said the department plans to rope in private medical centres to be part of the national immunisation programme.
“The plan is to vaccinate two million Sarawakians and 200,000 migrant workers in the next six months.
“Bringing in private medical centres will help realise this plan.”
Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Sri Aman, Sarikei and Limbang will each have a storage facility for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
In Sibu, Sarawak’s worst-hit district, the vaccine has been delivered to the public hospital there.
Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator Annuar Rapaee said the vaccination schedules will begin simultaneously with Kuching.
“Arrangements are being made for the first batch of frontliners in Sibu to get their jabs. The vaccines have been successfully and safely delivered to Sibu.”
Sarawak needs to inoculate about three million people to attain herd immunity.
The state has registered 78 coronavirus deaths and nearly 9,000 infections. – The Vibes, February 26, 2021
