MIRI – Another Covid-19 cluster was yet again detected in Sarawak today, caused by a native longhouse social gathering amid a rise in death toll rates in Sibu district.

The latest cluster was detected at Sg Buloh in the Selangau district, located next to Sibu.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said today that the Sg Buloh cluster involved people from three longhouses.

“The new Sg Buloh cluster was caused by a gathering involving residents of three longhouses who converged for a social event.

“A 32-year-old woman infected with Covid-19 in that gathering sparked an infection outbreak. So far, 28 positive infections have been found today,” the secretariat said.

Mass screenings are now being carried out by health teams at the affected longhouses.

There are 27 clusters statewide in total.

The death toll from the coronavirus rose to 81 today, with the death of a 77-year-old man in Sibu Hospital confirmed today as being due to Covid-19, according to the secretariat who expressed condolences to the deceased’s family.

Today also saw 255 new positive infections detected.

Sibu district saw 106 new cases, while Selangau saw 27, Miri 26, Kapit 22, Bintulu 13, Kuching 12, Betong 11, and several other districts less than 10 cases each.

Sibu Hospital has 1,101 Covid-19 patients today, while Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching has 384, Bintulu Hospital 282, Sarikei Hospital 212, Kapit Hospital 188, Miri Hospital 137, and Sri Aman Hospital 33. – The Vibes, February 27, 2021
