KOTA KINABALU – The defection of Sebatik rep Hassan A. Gani Pg Amir from Parti Warisan Sabah to become a government-friendly independent has taken a new twist.
The party has produced a letter purportedly issued by Hassan instructing a law firm to hand in his resignation letter to the Sabah speaker and state governor in the event that he quits Warisan.
Unlike his resignation letter, which was pre-signed without a date stamped on it, the instruction letter bears Hassan’s signature and is dated September 10, 2020.
The letter, addressed to Messr Adnan Puteh and Salleh, stipulates Hassan’s instruction to the law firm to hand in his pre-signed quit letter in the event he leaves the party.
The letter, in English, states verbatim: “Pursuant to the pledge of loyalty, I have pledged as an elected assemblyman in the event I joined another political party or declare my allegiance to another political party or if I declare myself to be independent before or after swearing in as an assemblyman of the State Assembly of Sabah. In order to show my utmost sincerity, I have willingly without fear, duress or compulsion, signed in advance my resignation letters to be submitted to the...”
It continues: “Your firm is to date and submit my resignation letters to the speaker of the legislative assembly of the State of Sabah and the Head of State in the event I join another political party, or if I declare myself to be independent or after swearing in as an assemblyman... or I am sacked or terminated as a member of Warisan Sabah.”
Earlier today, Sabah Speaker Datuk Kadzim M. Yahya said the pre-signed resignation letter is ineffective, prompting Warisan to announce its plan to take legal action to compel him to accept the said letter.
Kadzim also said Hassan sent a “counter letter” informing the speaker’s office that he has left Warisan and is now an independent assemblyman supporting the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah state government. – The Vibes, March 3, 2021
