MIRI – A woman from China, said to be married to a local man in Miri, was rescued after she tried to drown herself off Lutong beach, about 10km north of here.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s or 30s, was rescued by fishermen and members of the public who sighted her walking into sea in the mid-morning incident.

Miri police chief Hakemal Hawari said that members of the public claimed that the woman had purposely walked into the water as if she was trying to drown herself.

Fishermen who rescued the woman placed her on the beach, where she was pacified by members of the public while police were summoned.

The woman told those who rescued her that she was distressed as her husband had allegedly prevented her from seeing their child.

She has been sent to the Miri Hospital for treatment. – The Vibes, March 3, 2021
