KOTA KINABALU – Seat distribution among the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah parties will be based on consensus, as Umno is still at a crossroads on whether to work with Bersatu or not.

Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, however, said the Umno-Bersatu feud will not break its cooperation with the state GRS partners.

“I said this in my statement last night: for us in Sabah, (seat distribution) will be discussed with other GRS components.

“Whatever happens in the peninsula, the feud will not affect GRS in Sabah,” he told reporters here after the launch of the Sabah Maju Jaya Plan.

GRS comprises Parti Bersatu Sabah, Barisan Nasional’s Umno, MCA, PBRS and MIC, and Perikatan Nasional’s Bersatu, PAS, Star and SAPP.

This is not the first time Bung Moktar has maintained that Umno’s partnership with GRS will not be affected by the Bersatu-Umno feud in Peninsular Malaysia.

Yesterday, however, at its general assembly, Umno was defiant in stating it would not cooperate with Bersatu in the 15th general election.

“Seats distribution will be discussed and we will propose them to Umno at the central level.

“But whatever decision Umno makes, it will not affect politics in Sabah. We are part of Umno and we will respect their decision,” said Bung, adding that seat talks have not started yet.

Sabah Umno is eyeing 14 parliamentary seats, all those it also contested in the 14th general election.

The seats are Kudat, Kota Belud, Sepanggar, Papar, Kimanis, Beaufort, Sipitang, Tenom, Beluran, Libaran, Kinabatangan, Silam, Semporna and Kalabakan. – The Vibes, March 29, 2021
