KOTA KINABALU – Sabah PAS secretary Aliakbar Gulasan today said he is a Sabahan who loves the existing unity in the state.

Aliakbar, who is a nominated representative to the assembly, said his party is not an extremist one as claimed by many, and they have misunderstood PAS.

“PAS members in Sabah like myself are Sabahans. I was not born in West Malaysia. My parents, siblings are all Sabahans.

“I have relatives who are Muslims and non-Muslims. There is no way that I will bring an agenda that will destroy the peace and unity that we have in Sabah.

“I forgive those who have commented negatively about PAS members in Sabah. It may have been a misunderstanding. It may also be an agenda from certain parties, particularly DAP, to denigrate PAS.

“It has been proven that PAS has never had a problem with non-Muslims in several states that it governs; we never hurt the non-Muslims,” he told The Vibes.

Aliakbar said it is now important for him to take the responsibility and work together with the appointed and nominated representatives to develop the social and economy of Sabah.

“PAS will be working with other dominant parties that are non-Islamist. We will go through good and bad together with strong bonds and unity.”

Last week, Sabahans had objected to the move for a PAS leader to be appointed as a nominated assemblyman, with an online petition.

Several party leaders, including Sabah PKR chief Datuk Christina Liew and Sabah DAP Wanita chief Jannie Lasimbang, had rejected the proposal, saying PAS’ extremist views would be detrimental to the state. – The Vibes, October 8, 2020
