SANDAKAN – The position of the minister of health and people’s wellbeing in Sabah should be revived, says the state’s DAP acting chairman Datuk Frankie Poon.

Poon, who formerly held the role, said this in view of the sharp rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state recently.

“As the third most populous state in Malaysia, Sabah should not be solely reliant on the state’s health department,” he said.

Locals here have expressed their frustration over the slow Covid-19 updates by the Sabah Health Department.

“We need to have a minister to handle the Covid-19 pandemic, and provide us with daily updates in a timely manner.”

Poon used to post the state’s latest Covid-19 data in the form of infographics on a daily basis on his Facebook page.

These days, the data is normally available on the Sabah health department’s Facebook page, close to midnight.

The Tg Papat assemblyman said Sabah had 271 new Covid-19 cases today alone, so the people here should obey the conditional movement control order (CMCO) that will start tomorrow. – The Vibes, October 8, 2020
