BUKIT MERTAJAM – A 31-year-old man has been arrested following the seizure of 122.5kg of syabu and heroine worth RM6.45 million.
The man is believed to be part of a drug distribution syndicate that has been active since last month, said the police.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Razarudin Husain said a police team stopped a car in Permatang Pauh about 2pm on Monday, and checks found 72 packets of heroin-based drugs weighing 26.9kg worth RM3 million.
“In a follow-up operation, the team raided a house in Nibong Tebal and recovered 92 packets of syabu weighing 95.6kg, worth more than RM3.45 million. We are investigating to establish their network and the syndicate’s activities.
“We are also trying to identify other syndicate members. Initial investigations revealed that the drugs were for local distribution,” he told a press conference at the Seberang Prai Tengah district police headquarters in Bandar Perda here today.
Razarudin said the seizure was enough to supply 2.36 million addicts.
Police have obtained a seven-day remand order against the man.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence if convicted. – The Vibes, April 22, 2021
