MIRI – Sarawak today saw six more Covid-19 deaths, including three people brought into the hospitals who were already dead in their homes.
The latest deaths bring the death toll to 171 to date in the pandemic-ravaged state, the state Disaster Management Committee (DMC) secretariat announced.
Two of the deaths were in Bintulu Hospital, involving a 30-year-old man and a 52-year-old man. “They were found unconscious in their homes and were confirmed dead after being admitted to the hospital. Tests confirmed that they died of Covid-19,” said the secretariat.
The other deaths involved a 72-year-old woman in Kuching Sarawak General Hospital, a 79-year-old woman in a Kuching private hospital, a 54-year-old man in a Sarikei clinic, and a 37-year-old man in Sibu Hospital, who was also brought in dead.
Today, two new clusters and 416 new infections were recorded statewide, said the secretariat. The new clusters detected today are the Ulu Strass cluster in Meradong district which involves people in a longhouse, and the Melugu cluster in Sri Aman involving villagers. The total number of clusters in the state stands at 65.
Out of the 416 new infections, Kapit district recorded the most (53), followed by Miri (36), Bintulu (68), Sibu (46), Kuching (29), Serian (29) and other districts (below 20 cases each).
The DMC secretariat said Sarawak has imposed the enhanced movement control order on 10 longhouses in various localities. – The Vibes, April 28, 2021
