MIRI – Sarawak police and local councils of red-zone districts are cracking down on SOP violators as the Covid-19 death toll and infections continue to spiral in the state.

A total of 81 compounds were issued today to those violating business operating hours, refusing to obey crowd limits and social-distancing rules, indulging in cock-fighting, not wearing masks and not adhering to other SOPs.

This involved major cities and towns in Bintulu, Miri, Sibu and Kuching, besides longhouses, villages and urban localities.

Sarawak saw two more deaths and 356 new infections today, according to the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat.

The two virus deaths were of a woman, 86, in Bintulu Hospital and another woman, 57, in Sibu Hospital.

The latest fatalities take the death toll to 184.

Of the 356 new infections, Miri recorded 80, Sibu (74), Kuching (29), Sebauh (21), Selangau (20), Kapit (18), Pakan (16), Meradong (16), Subis (15) and Bintulu (13). Other districts logged fewer than 10 cases each. – The Vibes, May 3, 2021
